NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Super Review
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Super was NVIDIA's mid-cycle refresh of the RTX 2080, adding more CUDA cores and higher clocks on the same TU104 die, and if you're checking specs on it today it's firmly a legacy 1440p card worth buying only secondhand.
It was the first generation to offer real-time ray tracing and DLSS at all, but first-gen DLSS was noticeably softer than what came later, and RT performance takes a heavy hit compared to any RTX 30-series card. At this point it's a fine used card for 1080p high-refresh or 1440p esports titles, but not something to seek out new or pay a premium for.
Performance & Real-World Use
3072 CUDA cores and a 1815MHz boost clock put the 2080 Super roughly on par with a stock RTX 2080 Ti in some titles and slightly ahead of the vanilla RTX 2080, making it a capable 1440p card for its era but well behind current mainstream cards.
Comparison to Alternatives
Against the catalog's RTX 3060 Ti, the newer Ampere card beats the 2080 Super in rasterization while adding meaningfully better ray tracing and second-gen DLSS, for typically less money on the used market today. The plain RTX 2080 (also being added here) trails the Super by roughly 5-8%, so between the two the Super is the better legacy pickup if pricing is close.
