SmartAVI FDX-TX2000S Review
The SmartAVI FDX-TX2000S is the transmitter half of SmartAVI's discontinued FDX-2000S DVI-D KVM extender pair, sending video, USB and audio up to 300 ft over dual Cat5e/6 cable.
SmartAVI stopped making this unit years ago, so we'd only recommend it if you're replacing a dead transmitter in an existing FDX-2000S install, buying one new for a fresh extension run makes far less sense than something still supported like the NTI XTENDEX ST-C5KVM-300.
A Discontinued Half of a Matched Pair
The FDX-TX2000S only does one job: encode DVI-D video plus USB HID and stereo audio for transport to a matching FDX-RX2000S receiver over dual Cat5e/6 runs. SmartAVI sold it exclusively as part of the FDX-2000S bundle, so a lone transmitter almost always means someone is replacing a failed unit rather than starting a new install.
Why Buy It At All in 2026
With SmartAVI no longer manufacturing FDX-series hardware, the only real reason to track down a TX2000S is compatibility, you already have the receiver, cabling and desk layout built around it, and swapping the whole pair is more disruptive than sourcing the matching half.
Comparison to Alternatives
Against the NTI XTENDEX ST-C5KVM-300, which is a currently-shipping Cat5 KVM extender with a similar 300 ft-class range, the TX2000S loses on support and firmware updates but wins for anyone who needs exact drop-in compatibility with existing SmartAVI gear. The Rose CRK-1P1V PS/2 extender covers a different legacy PS/2 niche entirely and isn't a substitute.
