If you're comparing the TP-Link Archer GE650 against other WiFi 7 gaming routers under $300, it's the one that won Tom's Guide's Editor's Choice for value in September 2026.
We'd buy this over routers costing twice as much if you're gaming on a single floor or a typical apartment. The 5Gbps multi-gig ports and low-latency gaming mode are real, and at $250 it undercuts flagship WiFi 7 routers by hundreds of dollars. The tradeoff is a genuinely short 90-foot range and no 10Gbps port, so a large house will need a mesh system instead.
Performance and speed class
BE11000 breaks down to 5,764 Mbps on 6GHz, 4,323 Mbps on 5GHz, and 688 Mbps on 2.4GHz, with MLO letting a single device pull bandwidth from more than one band at once. That's real WiFi 7 performance, not a rebadged WiFi 6E chipset.
The 320MHz channel width on 6GHz and 4K-QAM modulation are what actually deliver the throughput gains, not just the headline number. In practice this means low latency for gaming on a supported 6GHz client, provided you're within range.
Ports and gaming features
One 5Gbps WAN port and three 2.5Gbps LAN ports, no 10Gbps port at all. For most home internet plans in 2026 that's plenty of headroom, but it rules this out for anyone with true multi-gig fiber wanting to pass the full speed through wired.
The gaming-specific extras are genuine: a dedicated gaming port with priority QoS, RGB lighting you can sync or turn off, and a quad-core CPU with real heatsinks and vents rather than a fanless shell that throttles under load.
The range tradeoff
90 feet of effective range is short for a router in this class, and it's the main reason this isn't a whole-home solution on its own. A single-floor apartment or a small house is fine. Anything larger and you'll want EasyMesh satellites or a dedicated mesh system instead.
This is the honest tradeoff for the price: TP-Link put the budget into the ports and gaming features rather than a longer-range radio and antenna array.
Versus the competition
Winner for value: the GE650 itself at $250. The ASUS ROG Rapture GT-BE98 and TP-Link Archer GE800 both cost significantly more for a 10Gbps port and longer range, which is only worth paying for if you actually have multi-gig internet or a larger home.
If range matters more than gaming features, the TP-Link Deco BE63 mesh 2-pack covers more square footage for a similar price. Choose the GE650 for a single room or apartment gaming setup, choose Deco BE63 for whole-home coverage.
