GIGABYTE AORUS RTX 3080 Gaming Box Rev 2.0 vs Sonnet eGFX Breakaway Box 650: which one fits your build
The GIGABYTE AORUS RTX 3080 Gaming Box Rev 2.0 suits buyers who want zero-assembly, single-cable eGPU with no PC-building involved. It also earns its place with Thunderbolt 3 MacBook Pro or Windows ultrabook owners wanting reliable RTX 3080 performance. It is the wrong buy for anyone who wants to upgrade the GPU later, since it's sealed and non-modular. The Sonnet eGFX Breakaway Box 650 is the one to take for RTX 3060/3070-class double-wide card builds on Thunderbolt 3. It is equally the pick for Mac users wanting official Apple eGPU certification on a mid-tier budget. It is not the one for RTX 3080 Ti/3090 or RTX 40-series cards that want more PSU headroom. Our rating of the GIGABYTE AORUS RTX 3080 Gaming Box Rev 2.0 (7/10): excellent plug-and-play convenience, but the sealed design and price premium hurt long-term value versus a bare enclosure.
