AMD Ryzen 7 1700X vs Intel 10th Gen Intel Core i7-10700K: Comparison
AMD Ryzen 7 1700X vs Intel 10th Gen Intel Core i7-10700K p-core boost clock compared
P-core boost clock is the dividing line, AMD Ryzen 7 1700X 3.8 GHz against Intel 10th Gen Intel Core i7-10700K 5.1 GHz. L2 cache runs the same way, 4 MB on the AMD Ryzen 7 1700X versus 2 MB on the Intel 10th Gen Intel Core i7-10700K, another win for AMD Ryzen 7 1700X. AMD Ryzen 7 1700X also leads on pcie lanes, 20 on the AMD Ryzen 7 1700X versus 16 on the Intel 10th Gen Intel Core i7-10700K.
Who each one is for
Take the AMD Ryzen 7 1700X for buyers wanting higher out-of-the-box clocks than the standard Ryzen 7 1700 within first-generation Zen. Avoid it for buyers with access to Zen 2 or newer chips, those generations offer meaningfully better per-core performance. Take the Intel 10th Gen Intel Core i7-10700K for gaming and productivity desktop builds wanting near-flagship Comet Lake performance at a lower price than the i9-10900K. It is the wrong buy for buyers needing maximum multi-threaded throughput, the 10-core i9-10900K offers meaningfully more for heavy rendering and encoding.
What AMD Ryzen 7 1700X and Intel 10th Gen Intel Core i7-10700K have in common
Where they agree, they agree completely, total cores, performance cores, efficiency cores, total threads and l3 cache included, so the decision does not turn on any of those. They match on 7 further specifications as well.
AMD Ryzen 7 1700X vs Intel 10th Gen Intel Core i7-10700K price
At the last price check the Intel 10th Gen Intel Core i7-10700K was $374 and the AMD Ryzen 7 1700X $399, a 7% premium.
