There is a split on base power as well, 95 W on the Ryzen 7 1800X versus 65 W on the Ryzen 7 4700G. They differ on memory type too, DDR4-2666 on the Ryzen 7 1800X versus DDR4 on the Ryzen 7 4700G.
Who each one is for
Take the Ryzen 7 1800X for buyers specifically wanting AMD's original first-generation Ryzen flagship at genuine 8-core, 16-thread capability. Avoid it for buyers prioritizing per-core performance, later Zen generations offer meaningfully better single-threaded results. Take the Ryzen 7 4700G for budget desktop builds wanting genuine 8-core Zen 2 performance with capable integrated graphics. It is not the one for buyers with access to the newer Ryzen 7 5700G, that chip's true Zen 3 architecture offers a real generational improvement.
Where the two are identical
Where they agree, they agree completely, total cores, performance cores, efficiency cores, total threads and p-core base clock included, so the decision does not turn on any of those. They match on 6 further specifications as well.
