AMD Ryzen 7 3700U vs AMD Ryzen 7 3700X: Comparison
What is the difference between Ryzen 7 3700U and Ryzen 7 3700X?
The gap that matters here is l3 cache: Ryzen 7 3700U 4 MB against Ryzen 7 3700X 32 MB, which puts Ryzen 7 3700X 88% ahead. On total cores there is little in it, 4 on the Ryzen 7 3700U versus 8 on the Ryzen 7 3700X. On performance cores there is little in it, 4 on the Ryzen 7 3700U versus 8 on the Ryzen 7 3700X. Total threads is closer, 8 on the Ryzen 7 3700U versus 16 on the Ryzen 7 3700X. There is a split on p-core boost clock as well, 4.0 GHz on the Ryzen 7 3700U versus 4.4 GHz on the Ryzen 7 3700X. P-core base clock is not the same on both, 2.3 GHz on the Ryzen 7 3700U versus 3.6 GHz on the Ryzen 7 3700X. Add l2 cache to that, 2 MB on the Ryzen 7 3700U versus 4 MB on the Ryzen 7 3700X, and the pattern holds. There is a split on tdp as well, 15 W on the Ryzen 7 3700U versus 65 W on the Ryzen 7 3700X. They differ on integrated graphics too, Yes on the Ryzen 7 3700U versus No on the Ryzen 7 3700X.
Who each one is for
Take the Ryzen 7 3700U for thin-and-light laptops wanting the strong Vega 10 iGPU without dedicated gaming laptop chassis thickness. Avoid it for buyers wanting maximum sustained performance, the higher-TDP 3750H variant has more thermal headroom to work with. Take the Ryzen 7 3700X for content creation and gaming builds wanting strong 8-core, 16-thread performance at efficient 65W power draw. It is not the one for buyers who need integrated graphics, this chip requires a discrete GPU.
Where the two are identical
The common ground is wider than the gap: efficiency cores, product line, release year and smt enabled are identical here.
Frequently asked questions
Do the Ryzen 7 3700U and Ryzen 7 3700X differ on socket?
