AMD Ryzen 7 3700X vs Intel 9th Gen Intel Core i7-9700: Comparison
AMD Ryzen 7 3700X vs Intel 9th Gen Intel Core i7-9700: the l3 cache difference
The gap that matters here is l3 cache: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 32 MB against Intel 9th Gen Intel Core i7-9700 12 MB, which puts AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 63% ahead. Add l2 cache to that, 4 MB on the AMD Ryzen 7 3700X versus 2 MB on the Intel 9th Gen Intel Core i7-9700, and the pattern holds. Pcie lanes runs the same way, 20 on the AMD Ryzen 7 3700X versus 16 on the Intel 9th Gen Intel Core i7-9700, another win for AMD Ryzen 7 3700X. Product line is not the same on both, Ryzen 7 on the AMD Ryzen 7 3700X versus Core i7 on the Intel 9th Gen Intel Core i7-9700.
Who each one is for
Take the AMD Ryzen 7 3700X for content creation and gaming builds wanting strong 8-core, 16-thread performance at efficient 65W power draw. Avoid it for buyers who need integrated graphics, this chip requires a discrete GPU. it is not built for enthusiasts wanting to overclock, the unlocked i7-9700K offers that flexibility. It is equally the pick for gaming-focused desktop builds wanting near-i7-9700K performance without paying for overclocking headroom.
Where the two are identical
Where they agree, they agree completely, total cores, performance cores, efficiency cores, tdp and socket status included, so the decision does not turn on any of those. They match on 7 further specifications as well.
Which is cheaper, AMD Ryzen 7 3700X or Intel 9th Gen Intel Core i7-9700?
They cost within a few percent of each other, $323 versus $329 when we last looked.
Frequently asked questions
