AMD Ryzen 7 4700U vs AMD Ryzen 7 5700U: Comparison
Ryzen 7 4700U vs Ryzen 7 5700U total threads compared
There is no decisive spec gap here. Total threads splits them by a margin most buyers will never feel, Ryzen 7 4700U 8 against Ryzen 7 5700U 16. There is a split on p-core boost clock as well, 4.1 GHz on the Ryzen 7 4700U versus 4.3 GHz on the Ryzen 7 5700U. There is a split on p-core base clock as well, 2.0 GHz on the Ryzen 7 4700U versus 1.8 GHz on the Ryzen 7 5700U. Release year is not the same on both, 2020 on the Ryzen 7 4700U versus 2021 on the Ryzen 7 5700U. There is a split on igpu as well, AMD Radeon RX Vega 7 on the Ryzen 7 4700U versus AMD Radeon Graphics on the Ryzen 7 5700U. Microarchitecture is not the same on both, Zen 2, Ryzen 4000 Series "Renoir" on the Ryzen 7 4700U versus Zen 2 "Lucienne", Ryzen 5000 Series on the Ryzen 7 5700U. Smt enabled is not the same on both, No on the Ryzen 7 4700U versus Yes on the Ryzen 7 5700U.
Ryzen 7 4700U vs Ryzen 7 5700U: which one fits your build
Take the Ryzen 7 4700U for ultraportable laptops wanting 8 physical cores at a lower price point than the SMT-equipped Ryzen 7 4800U. Avoid it for buyers specifically wanting maximum multi-threaded ceiling, the SMT-equipped Ryzen 7 4800U handles that better despite the same core count. Take the Ryzen 7 5700U for ultraportable laptops wanting strong multi-threaded performance at 15W, particularly for buyers comparing against Intel's 10th Gen U-series. It is not the one for buyers specifically wanting the newer Zen 3 architecture, the similarly-named Ryzen 7 5800U uses genuine Zen 3 cores instead.
Where the two are identical
The common ground is wider than the gap: total cores, performance cores, efficiency cores, tdp and l3 cache are identical here. They match on 8 further specifications as well.
Frequently asked questions
