AMD Ryzen 9 9850HX vs Intel Core Ultra 7 251HX: Comparison
AMD Ryzen 9 9850HX vs Intel Core Ultra 7 251HX: the l3 cache difference
Start with l3 cache, because it is the widest measured gap between them: AMD Ryzen 9 9850HX 64 MB against Intel Core Ultra 7 251HX 30 MB, 53% in favour of AMD Ryzen 9 9850HX. P-core base clock is not the same on both, 3 GHz on the AMD Ryzen 9 9850HX versus 2.9 GHz on the Intel Core Ultra 7 251HX. There is a split on socket as well, FL1 on the AMD Ryzen 9 9850HX versus FCBGA2114 on the Intel Core Ultra 7 251HX. Add pcie lanes to that, 28 on the AMD Ryzen 9 9850HX versus 24 on the Intel Core Ultra 7 251HX, and the pattern holds.
Who each one is for
Buy the AMD Ryzen 9 9850HX for mainstream desktop builds and everyday productivity, though it is not the pick for extreme overclocking (unless K/X-series) and workstation-class multi-threaded workloads. The Intel Core Ultra 7 251HX suits gaming laptops with a dedicated graphics card and streaming, photo editing and moderate video work, though it is not built for thin and light laptops where battery life comes first and copilot+ PC AI features, which need a 40+ TOPS NPU. The same goes for buyers who want HX-class speed without paying for a Core Ultra 9. It is not the one for hours of heavy rendering, where chips with more performance cores finish sooner.
What AMD Ryzen 9 9850HX and Intel Core Ultra 7 251HX have in common
The common ground is wider than the gap: tdp, integrated graphics, form factor, market segment and memory channels are identical here. They match on 2 further specifications as well.
Do the AMD Ryzen 9 9850HX and Intel Core Ultra 7 251HX differ on total cores?
Yes. Total Cores reads 12 on the AMD Ryzen 9 9850HX versus 18 on the Intel Core Ultra 7 251HX.
Is the ECC Support the same on the AMD Ryzen 9 9850HX and Intel Core Ultra 7 251HX?
It is. Both are listed at No, so it is not a reason to pick one over the other.
