Intel 8th Gen Intel Core i5 8310Y vs Intel 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10710U: Comparison
8th Gen Intel Core i5 8310Y vs 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10710U l3 cache compared
Start with l3 cache, because it is the widest measured gap between them: 8th Gen Intel Core i5 8310Y 4 MB against 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10710U 12 MB, 67% in favour of 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10710U. Add l2 cache to that, 0.5 MB on the 8th Gen Intel Core i5 8310Y versus 1 MB on the 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10710U, and the pattern holds. There is a split on tdp as well, 7 W on the 8th Gen Intel Core i5 8310Y versus 15 W on the 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10710U. They differ on socket too, FCBGA1515 on the 8th Gen Intel Core i5 8310Y versus FCBGA1528 on the 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10710U.
8th Gen Intel Core i5 8310Y vs 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10710U: which one fits your build
Take the 8th Gen Intel Core i5 8310Y for the thinnest fanless laptop and 2-in-1 designs prioritizing silent operation and battery life. It is the wrong buy for any performance-focused computing, the 7W power budget is a genuine ceiling on sustained throughput. Buy the 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10710U for thin-and-light laptops wanting genuine 6-core multi-threaded performance at 15W. It is not the one for buyers wanting maximum sustained clocks, the lower 1.1 GHz base clock reflects real thermal constraints at this power envelope.
What 8th Gen Intel Core i5 8310Y and 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10710U have in common
The common ground is wider than the gap: efficiency cores, integrated graphics, form factor, release year and market segment are identical here. They match on 1 further specification as well.
