Intel 10th Gen Intel Core i7-10870H vs Intel 11th Gen Intel Core i7 11850H: Comparison
10th Gen Intel Core i7-10870H vs 11th Gen Intel Core i7 11850H l2 cache compared
Start with l2 cache, because it is the widest measured gap between them: 10th Gen Intel Core i7-10870H 2 MB against 11th Gen Intel Core i7 11850H 10 MB, 80% in favour of 11th Gen Intel Core i7 11850H. Add l3 cache to that, 16 MB on the 10th Gen Intel Core i7-10870H versus 24 MB on the 11th Gen Intel Core i7 11850H, and the pattern holds. There is a split on microarchitecture as well, Comet Lake, 10th Gen Intel Core on the 10th Gen Intel Core i7-10870H versus Tiger Lake H, 11th Gen Intel Core on the 11th Gen Intel Core i7 11850H.
Which should you buy, 10th Gen Intel Core i7-10870H or 11th Gen Intel Core i7 11850H?
Take the 10th Gen Intel Core i7-10870H for content creation and gaming laptops wanting full 8-core Comet Lake performance with a high single-thread clock ceiling. It is not the one for buyers on a tighter budget not needing the full 8-core count, the 6-core i7-10750H offers similar single-thread clocks for less. Take the 11th Gen Intel Core i7 11850H for premium gaming and creator laptops wanting near-flagship 8-core Tiger Lake H performance. Avoid it for buyers wanting the absolute highest clocks, the flagship i9 11950H and unlocked 11980HK offer more.
What 10th Gen Intel Core i7-10870H and 11th Gen Intel Core i7 11850H have in common
The common ground is wider than the gap: total cores, performance cores, efficiency cores, total threads and tdp are identical here. They match on 8 further specifications as well.
