Intel 7th Gen Intel Core i7 7600U vs Intel 8th Gen Intel Core i7 8565U: Comparison
What is the difference between 7th Gen Intel Core i7 7600U and 8th Gen Intel Core i7 8565U?
Start with l3 cache, because it is the widest measured gap between them: 7th Gen Intel Core i7 7600U 4 MB against 8th Gen Intel Core i7 8565U 8 MB, 50% in favour of 8th Gen Intel Core i7 8565U. 8th Gen Intel Core i7 8565U also leads on l2 cache, 0.5 MB on the 7th Gen Intel Core i7 7600U versus 1 MB on the 8th Gen Intel Core i7 8565U. They differ on socket too, BGA1356 on the 7th Gen Intel Core i7 7600U versus FCBGA1528 on the 8th Gen Intel Core i7 8565U. They differ on release year too, 2016 on the 7th Gen Intel Core i7 7600U versus 2018 on the 8th Gen Intel Core i7 8565U.
7th Gen Intel Core i7 7600U vs 8th Gen Intel Core i7 8565U: which one fits your build
Take the 7th Gen Intel Core i7 7600U for buyers of older-generation thin-and-light laptops wanting to understand this chip's genuine 2-core ceiling. It is not the one for buyers with access to 8th Gen or newer U-series chips, those bring genuine 4-core multi-threaded capability. Take the 8th Gen Intel Core i7 8565U for mainstream ultraportable laptops of the Whiskey Lake generation wanting solid everyday responsiveness. Avoid it for buyers wanting the newer Ice Lake or Tiger Lake architecture, later generations deliver meaningful IPC and integrated graphics improvements.
What 7th Gen Intel Core i7 7600U and 8th Gen Intel Core i7 8565U have in common
The common ground is wider than the gap: efficiency cores, tdp, integrated graphics, product line and form factor are identical here. They match on 3 further specifications as well.
