7th Gen Intel Core i7 7600U vs 8th Gen Intel Core i7 8750H: the l3 cache difference
On l3 cache the spread is 56%, 7th Gen Intel Core i7 7600U 4 MB against 8th Gen Intel Core i7 8750H 9 MB, so 8th Gen Intel Core i7 8750H takes it. 8th Gen Intel Core i7 8750H also leads on l2 cache, 0.5 MB on the 7th Gen Intel Core i7 7600U versus 1.5 MB on the 8th Gen Intel Core i7 8750H. There is a split on tdp as well, 15 W on the 7th Gen Intel Core i7 7600U versus 45 W on the 8th Gen Intel Core i7 8750H. Socket is not the same on both, BGA1356 on the 7th Gen Intel Core i7 7600U versus FCBGA1440 on the 8th Gen Intel Core i7 8750H.
Who each one is for
Take the 7th Gen Intel Core i7 7600U for buyers of older-generation thin-and-light laptops wanting to understand this chip's genuine 2-core ceiling. Avoid it for buyers with access to 8th Gen or newer U-series chips, those bring genuine 4-core multi-threaded capability. Take the 8th Gen Intel Core i7 8750H for gaming and creator laptops of its generation wanting genuine 6-core multi-threaded performance. It is not the one for buyers wanting the latest architecture, considerably newer mobile chips offer meaningful IPC and efficiency gains.
Where the two are identical
Everything else lines up. Efficiency cores, integrated graphics, product line, form factor and market segment read the same on both, so those are not worth weighing. They match on 1 further specification as well.
