8th Gen Intel Core i7 8550U vs 8th Gen Intel Core i7 8750H: the total cores difference
These two are close on paper, and total cores is the only measure that separates them at all: 8th Gen Intel Core i7 8550U 4 against 8th Gen Intel Core i7 8750H 6. L3 cache runs the same way, 8 MB on the 8th Gen Intel Core i7 8550U versus 9 MB on the 8th Gen Intel Core i7 8750H, another win for 8th Gen Intel Core i7 8750H. There is a split on socket as well, FCBGA1356 on the 8th Gen Intel Core i7 8550U versus FCBGA1440 on the 8th Gen Intel Core i7 8750H. Release year is not the same on both, 2017 on the 8th Gen Intel Core i7 8550U versus 2018 on the 8th Gen Intel Core i7 8750H.
8th Gen Intel Core i7 8550U vs 8th Gen Intel Core i7 8750H: which one fits your build
Take the 8th Gen Intel Core i7 8550U for buyers of this laptop generation wanting the premium tier within Intel's first genuinely 4-core U-series generation. It is not the one for buyers with access to newer generations, considerably more recent U-series chips offer meaningful IPC and efficiency gains. Take the 8th Gen Intel Core i7 8750H for gaming and creator laptops of its generation wanting genuine 6-core multi-threaded performance. It is the wrong buy for buyers wanting the latest architecture, considerably newer mobile chips offer meaningful IPC and efficiency gains.
Where the two are identical
Everything else lines up. Efficiency cores, integrated graphics, product line, form factor and market segment read the same on both, so those are not worth weighing. They match on 1 further specification as well.
