Intel 10th Gen Intel Core i9 10980HK vs Intel 11th Gen Intel Core i9-11980HK: Comparison
10th Gen Intel Core i9 10980HK vs 11th Gen Intel Core i9-11980HK: the l2 cache difference
Start with l2 cache, because it is the widest measured gap between them: 10th Gen Intel Core i9 10980HK 2 MB against 11th Gen Intel Core i9-11980HK 10 MB, 80% in favour of 11th Gen Intel Core i9-11980HK. L3 cache runs the same way, 16 MB on the 10th Gen Intel Core i9 10980HK versus 24 MB on the 11th Gen Intel Core i9-11980HK, another win for 11th Gen Intel Core i9-11980HK. Microarchitecture is not the same on both, Comet Lake, 10th Gen Intel Core on the 10th Gen Intel Core i9 10980HK versus Tiger Lake H, 11th Gen Intel Core on the 11th Gen Intel Core i9-11980HK.
Who each one is for
The 10th Gen Intel Core i9 10980HK suits enthusiast gaming laptops wanting an unlocked, overclockable mobile flagship chip. It is not the one for buyers not planning to overclock, the standard i7-10870H delivers similar stock performance for less. Take the 11th Gen Intel Core i9-11980HK for flagship gaming laptops wanting the strongest available Tiger Lake H performance with overclocking headroom. Avoid it for budget-conscious buyers, the non-K 11800H, covered elsewhere on this site, delivers similar core performance for less without the overclocking headroom.
What 10th Gen Intel Core i9 10980HK and 11th Gen Intel Core i9-11980HK have in common
The common ground is wider than the gap: total cores, performance cores, efficiency cores, total threads and tdp are identical here. They match on 6 further specifications as well.
