They differ on release year too, 2020 on the Ryzen Threadripper PRO 3975WX versus 2023 on the Threadripper PRO 7995WX. Core count is not the same on both, 32 cores on the Ryzen Threadripper PRO 3975WX versus 96 cores on the Threadripper PRO 7995WX. They differ on thread count too, 64 threads on the Ryzen Threadripper PRO 3975WX versus 192 threads on the Threadripper PRO 7995WX. There is a split on base clock as well, 3.5 GHz on the Ryzen Threadripper PRO 3975WX versus 2.5 GHz on the Threadripper PRO 7995WX.
Who each one is for
Take the Ryzen Threadripper PRO 3975WX for professional workstation workloads needing genuine 32-core, 64-thread single-socket throughput without the top-tier 64-core price. It is not the one for anyone outside professional workstation use, this is specialized, expensive hardware far beyond consumer needs. The Threadripper PRO 7995WX is the one to take for studios rendering at massive scale and engineering teams running heavy simulation, though it is not the pick for gamers and anyone on a limited cooling or power budget. Our rating of the Threadripper PRO 7995WX (9.4/10): the Threadripper PRO 7995WX is the fastest multi-threaded consumer-adjacent CPU AMD sells, but its price and cooling demands make sense only for teams whose software actually scales to 192 threads.
