L3 cache is closer, 152 MB on the Threadripper 9960X versus 160 MB on the Threadripper PRO 9975WX. Core count is not the same on both, 24 cores on the Threadripper 9960X versus 32 cores on the Threadripper PRO 9975WX. They differ on thread count too, 48 threads on the Threadripper 9960X versus 64 threads on the Threadripper PRO 9975WX. There is a split on base clock as well, 4.3 GHz on the Threadripper 9960X versus 4.0 GHz on the Threadripper PRO 9975WX. The memory support figures are near enough to ignore, Quad-channel ECC-capable DDR5 on the Threadripper 9960X versus 8-channel ECC DDR5 on the Threadripper PRO 9975WX.
Threadripper 9960X vs Threadripper PRO 9975WX: which one fits your build
The Threadripper 9960X suits content creators mixing single- and multi-threaded work and software developers with large compile jobs, though it is the wrong buy for gaming-focused builds and users on air cooling under 240mm. Buy the Threadripper PRO 9975WX for 3D rendering and animation professionals and engineers running CAD/CAM software, though it is not built for budget builds and pure gaming rigs. Our rating of the Threadripper 9960X (8.9/10): the Threadripper 9960X is a well-balanced high-core-count chip that handles both single-threaded and parallel workloads without the premium of the top-tier models. Our rating of the Threadripper PRO 9975WX (9.1/10): the Threadripper PRO 9975WX delivers workstation-grade multi-threaded performance with strong single-core boost, making it a serious option for professionals who outgrew mainstream desktop platforms.
Where the two are identical
Where they agree, they agree completely, boost clock, tdp, release year, core architecture and socket included, so the decision does not turn on any of those. They match on 1 further specification as well.
Frequently asked questions
