Acer Aspire 3 A315-24P (Ryzen 5 7520U, 8GB Soldered) Review
The Acer Aspire 3 A315-24P ships with an AMD Ryzen 5 7520U, 8GB of LPDDR5-5500 soldered directly to the board with zero SO-DIMM slots, and a 512GB NVMe SSD in a 15.6-inch FHD chassis.
Same Aspire 3 name, same 15.6-inch FHD chassis, and a completely different upgrade answer than the A315-59. This is the fully soldered chassis code: 8GB today is 8GB forever. If a listing just says Aspire 3 8GB RAM with no chassis code, this is the risk you're taking.
Performance
The Ryzen 5 7520U is a 4-core, 8-thread Mendocino-based part built for the lowest end of the mainstream segment. It's efficient and adequate for browsing and office work, but has less raw multi-core throughput than the i5-1235U in the A315-59 sold under the same series name.
Upgradability
RAM: no. All 8GB of LPDDR5-5500 is soldered to the board with zero physical SO-DIMM slots. This is the ceiling for the life of the machine. Storage: the single M.2 2280 slot is already occupied, so a capacity upgrade means replacing the drive.
Battery life
The 50Wh battery is the same capacity as the A315-59, but the more efficient soldered LPDDR5 platform and lower-power CPU may deliver somewhat better light-load runtime. Acer has not published a directly comparable figure for either configuration.
Display
Identical 15.6-inch 1080p IPS panel at 60Hz to the A315-59. Adequate for office and browsing, nothing more.
Design and ports
Same 1.7kg chassis and port selection as the A315-59: no Thunderbolt, WiFi 6. The two Aspire 3 chassis codes are visually near-identical, which is exactly the problem this record exists to flag.
