AMD Radeon 610M Review

The AMD Radeon 610M is an integrated RDNA 2 GPU with 2 compute units at up to 2.2GHz that shares system memory, found in Ryzen 7020 Mendocino entry-level laptop chips and as basic display output in HX-series desktop-replacement CPUs.

Not every integrated GPU is trying to compete with a discrete card, and the Radeon 610M is honest about that. With just 2 compute units on RDNA 2, it's built to handle basic display output, video playback, and everyday desktop use in AMD's cheapest laptop chips and in high-core-count HX-series desktop-replacement CPUs where the GPU is genuinely an afterthought next to a discrete card that's expected to handle all actual gaming. We list it because a lot of buyers researching budget AMD laptops or high-end gaming laptops with HX-series CPUs run into "Radeon 610M" in the spec sheet and reasonably want to know what it actually does, the honest answer is: keeps the screen on, not much more.

Why a High-End Gaming Laptop CPU Has Such a Basic iGPU

It looks strange to see a 2-compute-unit integrated GPU listed alongside a flagship Ryzen 9 HX-series chip built for gaming laptops, but it makes sense once you realize those laptops always ship with a discrete GPU doing the actual gaming, the integrated 610M exists purely as a fallback display output and for power-saving hybrid graphics switching, not as a graphics solution anyone is meant to game on directly.

Comparison to Alternatives

Against our AMD Radeon Vega 7 and Vega 8, both older Vega-architecture chips with more compute units meaningfully outperform the 610M in anything graphics-intensive, the 610M's RDNA 2 architecture is newer but its 2-compute-unit count is a deliberate bare-minimum configuration, not a performance-focused one. Against Intel's UHD Graphics 770, a similarly basic-tier desktop integrated GPU, the two occupy a similar "handles the display, not gaming" role for their respective platforms.

Expert rating2 / 10

The bare-minimum tier of AMD's integrated graphics, 2 RDNA 2 compute units built for display output and power-saving, not gaming.

Best for

  • Entry-level laptop buyers who understand the chip is for basic use, not gaming.
  • Gaming laptop buyers who understand this iGPU is a display/power-saving fallback, not what the machine actually games on.

Not for

  • Anyone expecting any meaningful gaming performance from this GPU specifically.
  • Buyers comparing integrated graphics gaming capability, look at the Radeon 780M, 890M, or Intel Arc Graphics instead.
