Apple M5 Ultra GPU Review
The Apple M5 Ultra GPU is an integrated up to 80-core GPU with per-core Neural Accelerators, up to 512GB unified memory, and up to 1.2TB/s bandwidth, found in the top Mac Studio configuration, with no PC integrated-graphics equivalent.
The M5 Ultra is Apple's flagship desktop chip, built by joining two M5 Max dies together, and its 80-core GPU with up to 1.2TB/s of unified memory bandwidth and a 512GB memory ceiling puts it in a category with no real PC integrated-graphics equivalent, this is desktop workstation silicon competing with high-end discrete professional GPU setups on memory capacity and bandwidth, not with anything branded as "integrated graphics" on the PC side. Apple positions it specifically for the most demanding local AI, video, and 3D workloads that need enormous unified memory pools rather than being split across a CPU's system RAM and a GPU's separate VRAM. Apple claims up to 4.5x the peak AI GPU compute of the previous M3 Ultra generation and up to 40% faster general graphics performance, a substantial generational jump reflecting how much Apple has invested in scaling this specific chip class.
No PC Integrated Graphics Comparison Really Applies
Every other chip in this batch can be reasonably discussed alongside AMD's or Intel's integrated graphics, the M5 Ultra genuinely can't, an 80-core GPU with a 512GB unified memory ceiling and 1.2TB/s of bandwidth exceeds what any PC integrated graphics solution offers, and even most discrete professional GPU setups don't match its memory capacity, though they typically exceed it in raw compute density. It's a fundamentally different category of chip that happens to still be called "integrated" because CPU and GPU share the same silicon and memory pool.
Comparison to Alternatives
Against our AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 (Radeon 8060S), the M5 Ultra's memory ceiling (512GB vs 128GB) and bandwidth (1.2TB/s vs 256GB/s) are both dramatically higher, the two chips share a unified-memory design philosophy but operate at completely different scales. Against genuine multi-GPU professional PC workstation setups, the M5 Ultra offers a single-chip, single-memory-pool alternative that simplifies certain workflows (no need to split large models or scenes across multiple GPUs' separate VRAM pools) at the cost of the raw parallel compute density a multi-card professional setup can offer.

Expert rating9 / 10
Apple's flagship desktop GPU, up to 80 cores with per-core Neural Accelerators, up to 512GB unified memory at 1.2TB/s, competing with high-end multi-GPU professional workstation setups, with no PC integrated-graphics equivalent.
Best for
- The most demanding local AI, video, and 3D professional workloads needing an enormous single unified memory pool.
- Buyers evaluating Apple's flagship desktop chip against multi-GPU professional PC workstation setups.
Not for
- Anyone outside genuinely large-scale professional workloads, this chip's cost and capability are wasted on typical use.
- Gaming comparisons of any kind, this chip's entire value proposition is professional compute and memory capacity, not gaming performance.
