Apple MacBook Pro 14-inch M5 Max chip, 18-core CPU, 32-core GPU, 36GB unified memory, 2TB SSD, Liquid Retina XDR display, Thunderbolt 5, macOS, for video and 3D professionals.
The most GPU a 14-inch MacBook Pro can carry: M5 Max squeezed into the compact chassis, for editors and 3D artists who don't want the bigger 16-inch body.
Performance
M5 Max steps up to an 18-core CPU and, in this configuration, a 32-core GPU — Apple's largest GPU offered in the 14-inch chassis (a 40-core bin exists but is more commonly paired with the 16-inch for thermal headroom). Expect the ceiling of Apple Silicon GPU compute in a body this size.
Upgradability
As with every MacBook, memory and storage are fixed at purchase: 36GB unified memory and 2TB SSD are both soldered/on-package. There is no path to add either after the fact.
Battery life
Same 72.4Wh battery as the M5 Pro configuration, but Apple rates video playback and web use slightly lower (around 13 hours web) because the larger GPU draws more power under equivalent workloads.
Display
Identical panel to the M5 Pro 14-inch: 3024x1964 Liquid Retina XDR at up to 120Hz, 1000 nits sustained / 1600 nits HDR peak.
Design and ports
1.632kg, marginally heavier than the M5 Pro build due to the larger die's thermal solution. Same port set: three Thunderbolt 5, HDMI, SDXC, MagSafe 3.
