Arctic P8 Max (80mm/34.6 CFM/4.3 mmH2O Static Pressure/4200 RPM Max/33.2 dBA/Fluid Dynamic Bearing/No RGB/PWM) Review

Searching for a small-form-factor fan that can actually push through a dense SFF radiator or VRM heatsink, the P8 Max is one of the few 80mm fans built specifically for that.

We'd only buy this for tight SFF or console-style builds where an 80 or 92mm mount is the only option, since 4200 RPM at 33 dBA is loud for how little absolute air it moves compared to a 120mm fan.

Small Fan, High Pressure

At 80mm, blade area is limited, so Arctic compensates with very high rotational speed to hit static pressure figures that rival much larger fans, at the cost of a higher-pitched noise signature.

Comparison to Alternatives

There's no other 80mm fan in this catalog to compare directly against; against the Noctua NF-A9 PWM in the catalog at 92mm, the larger Noctua fan moves comparable air at a much lower noise level, so use the Noctua wherever the case has room for the extra 12mm. The P8 Max exists specifically for the builds that don't have that room.

Expert rating6 / 10

A genuinely useful fan for cramped SFF builds, but only worth the noise penalty when nothing larger fits.

Best for

  • SFF cases with only 80mm fan mounts
  • VRM or chipset heatsink cooling in tight spaces
  • Console-style small-form-factor builds

Not for

  • Any case with room for a 92mm or 120mm fan
  • Noise-sensitive builds
  • RGB or showcase builds

FAQs

What are the key specifications of the Arctic P8 Max (80mm/34.6 CFM/4.3 mmH2O Static Pressure/4200 RPM Max/33.2 dBA/Fluid Dynamic Bearing/No RGB/PWM)?
