First released in 2018, the Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro CMW16GX4M2C3200C16 is a 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 memory kit running at 3200MHz (PC4-25600) with CL16 timings, 16-18-18-36 secondary timings, and 1.35V operating voltage. It is the RGB variant of Corsair's Vengeance line, carrying ten individually addressable RGB LEDs per module controlled through Corsair iCUE software and synchronised across other Corsair devices via Light LINK. Build specification includes an anodized aluminium heat spreader, a custom performance PCB, screened memory ICs, 288-pin construction, and a wire-free design that needs no lighting cables. It supports Intel XMP 2.0 and is available in black and white.

Performance-wise this kit is identical to the non-RGB Vengeance LPX at the same speed and timings. What you pay extra for is the lighting and what you give up is clearance: at 51mm this module is roughly 17mm taller than the LPX equivalent, which is enough to collide with the fan on a large tower air cooler. If your build has a wide-open top or an AIO, the RGB Pro is the same memory with lights on it. If you are running a big air cooler, measure before you buy, because this is the single most common reason people return this kit.

Performance and Timings

CL16 at 3200MHz works out to roughly 10ns of true latency, which is the standard mainstream DDR4 configuration. True latency is CAS latency divided by half the rated speed, which is why a CL16 kit at 3200 and a CL18 kit at 3600 land in almost the same place. Rated speed on its own is not a performance figure. This is the C revision, which ships with 16-18-18-36 secondary timings. That is the tighter of the two common bins for Vengeance 3200 CL16 kits, since other revisions of the same advertised configuration ship at 16-20-20-38. The practical difference between them is one to two nanoseconds in a synthetic latency test and around one percent in a CPU-bound game, so it is not a reason to hunt for a specific revision, but if two kits are priced the same, this is the better one. The bigger constraint on this kit is not timing, it is capacity. 16GB is now the minimum comfortable amount rather than the generous amount, and a 2x8GB kit fills two slots to get there.

Compatibility

This is a DDR4 kit and fits DDR4 motherboards only. It will not install in an AM5 or DDR5 Intel board. On Intel boards, enable XMP 2.0 in BIOS to reach 3200MHz. On AMD boards the same profile is normally labelled DOCP or AMP, since XMP is an Intel standard that AMD boards read through their own implementation. AMD EXPO does not apply here, as EXPO is a DDR5-only standard. DDR4-3200 is the recommended speed for Ryzen 3000 and 5000 series, keeping the memory controller running 1:1 with the infinity fabric at 1600MHz. The RGB lighting requires Corsair iCUE software installed in Windows to configure. Without iCUE the modules still light up on a default pattern, they simply cannot be customised. Some motherboard lighting suites can control them directly, but iCUE is the reliable route. Check your motherboard's memory QVL before buying, and check your CPU cooler clearance, which matters far more on this kit than on the LPX.

Module Count and Rank

This is a two-module kit filling two slots, leaving two free on a standard four-slot ATX board. Two sticks is the configuration DDR4 memory controllers handle best, and a two-stick kit holds its rated speed more reliably than the same capacity spread across four modules. 8GB DDR4 modules at this speed are typically single-rank. Single-rank modules are slightly easier on the memory controller and slightly slower than dual-rank at identical settings, though the gap is small enough that it should not drive the purchase. Corsair has changed IC suppliers across revisions of the Vengeance line, so rank and die source are not guaranteed from the model number alone. Do not plan to buy a second identical kit later to reach 32GB. Even two kits with the same part number bought at different times can be built on different dies, and mixing them is a common cause of boot failures and instability. Buy the full capacity you want in one matched kit.

Design and Build

The defining feature is the lighting: ten individually addressable RGB LEDs per module behind a diffuser bar, with no cables to route. Configuration happens in iCUE, which also syncs the memory with other Corsair components through Light LINK. The trade-off is height. At 51mm these are tall modules, and clearance under a large tower air cooler is genuinely tight. Coolers with a front fan that sits low over the DIMM slots may require shifting the fan upward, which in turn can foul the case side panel or top radiator. This is the practical reason the low-profile Vengeance LPX still exists alongside it. Underneath the lighting the build is standard Corsair: anodized aluminium heat spreader, custom performance PCB for signal quality, screened ICs. Black and white are the two colour options, with black by far the more widely stocked. One behaviour worth knowing before buying: the RGB on these modules stays lit while the system is in standby on many boards. If the PC sits in a bedroom, that is a real consideration, and it is fixed through BIOS ErP settings rather than through iCUE.

Overclocking and BIOS Setup

Out of the box this kit boots at a JEDEC baseline of 2133MHz or 2400MHz. It does not run at 3200MHz until the XMP profile is turned on. Enter BIOS, select XMP on Intel or DOCP on AMD, choose Profile 1, save and reboot. Confirm in CPU-Z that the reported frequency is 1600MHz, which is DDR4-3200 shown as its base clock. Skipping this step is the most common reason for "my new RAM feels no faster" complaints, and on Ryzen the penalty for leaving it at stock is significant. Beyond XMP, manual tuning on this kit is a gamble. Corsair does not disclose the memory ICs used, and they vary between production runs, so overclocking headroom is not predictable from the part number. Buyers who want to tune should choose a kit binned and sold for a known die.

Comparison to Sibling Products

The closest sibling is the Vengeance LPX at the same 16GB, 3200MHz, CL16 configuration. Performance is identical. The LPX is roughly 17mm shorter, has no lighting, and normally costs less. Choose LPX for air-cooled and small form factor builds, choose RGB Pro when the build is on display and cooler clearance is not a concern. Within RGB Pro itself, the 32GB (2x16GB) variants of the same series are the natural step up, and are worth the jump for anyone who streams, edits or runs virtual machines alongside gaming. Note that some 32GB variants ship on the looser 16-20-20-38 timings rather than the 16-18-18-36 on this kit. Corsair also sells Vengeance RGB RT and RS at similar speeds, which are the value-oriented RGB lines with a simpler lighting implementation and, on the RS, no iCUE support in the same form.

Who This Kit Is Actually For

Showcase builds on DDR4. Tempered glass side panel, existing Corsair ecosystem, iCUE already installed. This is the kit that matches. Ryzen AM4 gaming builds with an AIO. 3200 CL16 is the platform sweet spot and a liquid cooler removes the clearance problem entirely. First-time builders wanting 16GB with lighting. Broadly compatible, works after enabling one BIOS setting, and looks like the builds people are copying. Not for large air-cooled builds without measuring. At 51mm this is where the cooler clash happens. Check clearance or buy the LPX. Not for anyone who needs 32GB. Buy a 32GB kit outright rather than this plus a second kit later. Not for new 2026 builds. DDR4 is end of life and current pricing has removed its cost advantage. Build on DDR5 if starting fresh. Not for memory tuners. Undisclosed and varying ICs make overclocking results unpredictable.
