Hardkernel ODROID-N2+ (Single-Board Computer/Amlogic S922X/Hexa-Core Cortex-A73+A53/Up to 4GB LPDDR4/High-Clock Media & NAS Board) Review

Hardkernel ODROID-N2+ single-board computer with an Amlogic S922X hexa-core big.LITTLE CPU clocked up to 2.4GHz, up to 4GB LPDDR4 RAM, Gigabit Ethernet, and a 40-pin GPIO header, aimed at NAS and media-server use.

The N2+ is Hardkernel's answer to 'I want more raw CPU clock speed than a Pi 4 without waiting for a wireless-equipped board' -- it skips WiFi entirely, leans on wired Gigabit Ethernet, and clocks its performance cores higher than almost anything else in its price bracket.

Overview

Hardkernel binned faster S922X chips for the '+' revision, pushing the two performance clusters to 2.4GHz and 2.0GHz respectively -- noticeably higher than the original ODROID-N2. The board deliberately omits wireless radios, keeping the design simple and the wired networking path fast and interference-free.

Performance & Connectivity

Gigabit Ethernet actually reaches near-line-rate throughput, a real eMMC socket avoids microSD bottlenecks, and USB 3.0 ports support external drives for lightweight NAS builds. Hardkernel maintains its own Ubuntu and Android images with regular updates.

Comparison to Alternatives

Against the Raspberry Pi 4 Model B (8GB), the N2+ offers higher clocked CPU cores and a cleaner eMMC storage path but caps out at 4GB RAM and has no wireless radio at all. Compared to the Hardkernel ODROID-M1, the N2+ trades RK3568's NPU and PCIe options for Amlogic's stronger raw CPU clocks.

Expert rating7.6 / 10

A fast, no-nonsense wired board that beats the Pi 4 on clock speed for NAS and server tasks, at the cost of any wireless option and a 4GB memory ceiling.

Best for

  • Wired NAS or Samba/NFS file servers
  • Retro emulation benefiting from higher clock speeds
  • Headless server tasks where WiFi isn't needed

Not for

  • Portable or WiFi-dependent projects
  • Workloads needing more than 4GB RAM
  • AI/ML tasks needing an onboard NPU
