Intel Core i5-13600 Review
Intel Core i5-13600 desktop processor: 14 cores (6P + 8E), 20 threads, up to 5.0 GHz, 24 MB L3 and 11.5 MB L2 cache, 65 W base and 154 W max turbo power, Intel UHD Graphics 770, LGA1700, DDR5-4800 and DDR4-3200, ECC support, PCIe 5.0, Intel 7, Raptor Lake.
The Intel Core i5-13600 is a 14-core, 20-thread desktop processor from Intel's 13th Gen Core family, launched in early 2023 for the LGA1700 socket. It combines 6 performance cores with 8 efficient cores, boosts up to 5.0 GHz, has a 65 W base power and includes Intel UHD Graphics 770. It is the fastest locked 65 W Core i5 of its generation and mostly shows up in prebuilt desktops.
What the Core i5-13600 is
The Core i5-13600 is a socketed LGA1700 desktop chip from the 13th Gen Raptor Lake family, built on the Intel 7 process. It has 6 performance cores with Hyper-Threading and 8 efficient cores, 20 threads in total. The performance cores run from 2.7 GHz up to 5.0 GHz and the efficient cores from 2.0 GHz up to 3.7 GHz, with 24 MB of L3 cache and 11.5 MB of L2 cache. Intel rates it at 65 W base power with up to 154 W of turbo power. It supports DDR5-4800 or DDR4-3200 memory in two channels, up to 192 GB, lists ECC memory support, and offers 20 PCIe lanes with PCIe 5.0 support. The multiplier is locked. Intel lists only a tray version, so it is more common in prebuilt desktops than as a boxed retail chip.
Performance in everyday use
With 14 cores and a 5.0 GHz boost, it has plenty of speed for demanding desktop work. Video exports, 3D rendering, code compiles and heavy multitasking make good use of its 20 threads, and it is quick in everyday apps thanks to the high boost clock. For gaming, the 6 performance cores keep modern games running well with a capable graphics card. Actual speed depends a lot on how the PC maker sets power limits and cooling: a system that allows the full 154 W turbo power will hold higher clocks under long loads than a compact office PC.
Graphics
The built-in Intel UHD Graphics 770 has 32 execution units running at up to 1.55 GHz and can drive up to 4 displays over HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4a. It is fine for office work, multi-monitor setups and 4K video, and Intel Quick Sync Video speeds up video encoding and editing. For modern games you will want a graphics card.
Comparison to Alternatives
Against the Core i5-13500 it has the same core layout with higher base and boost clocks. The Core i5-13600K is the unlocked version with a 125 W base power and a higher boost, and the Core i5-14600K is its 14th Gen successor. Against AMD, the Ryzen 5 7600 has 6 cores and 12 threads on AM5, and the Ryzen 7 5700X has 8 cores and 16 threads on AM4. The comparison pages below show each spec side by side.
Should you buy it?
It is a good choice when you find it inside a prebuilt desktop at a fair price, since it offers strong multi-core performance, integrated graphics and support for cheaper DDR4 memory. Check the system's cooling and power settings, as they decide how fast it really runs. If you are building your own PC, the boxed Core i5-13500 or Core i5-13600K are easier to buy. LGA1700 ended with Intel's 14th Gen, so there is no newer CPU to upgrade to on the same board.

FAQs
What is the difference between the Core i5-13600 and i5-13600K?
Both have 14 cores and 20 threads. The 13600 is locked with a 65 W base power and a 5.0 GHz boost, while the 13600K is unlocked for overclocking, runs at a 125 W base power and boosts higher.
Can you buy the Core i5-13600 as a boxed CPU?
Intel lists only a tray version of the Core i5-13600, so it is mostly found in prebuilt desktops. DIY builders usually pick the boxed Core i5-13500 or Core i5-13600K.
Is the Intel Core i5-13600 good for gaming?
Yes, with a graphics card. Its 6 performance cores boost up to 5.0 GHz and run modern games well. The built-in UHD Graphics 770 is only suited to light gaming.
Does the i5-13600 support DDR4 and DDR5?
Yes. It supports DDR5 up to 4800 MT/s and DDR4 up to 3200 MT/s in two channels, up to 192 GB. The motherboard decides which type you use.
Can you overclock the Core i5-13600?
No. The multiplier is locked, so the cores cannot be overclocked.
