Intel Core i5-14600 Review
Intel Core i5-14600 desktop processor: 14 cores (6P + 8E), 20 threads, up to 5.2 GHz, 24 MB L3 cache, 20 MB L2 cache, 65 W base power, 154 W max turbo power, LGA1700, DDR5-5600 and DDR4-3200, ECC support, PCIe 5.0, Intel UHD Graphics 770, Intel 7.
The Intel Core i5-14600 is a 14-core, 20-thread desktop processor from Intel's 14th Gen Core lineup, launched in early 2024 for the LGA1700 socket. It is the locked, 65 W version of the Core i5-14600K, boosting up to 5.2 GHz with 24 MB of L3 cache and Intel UHD Graphics 770. Intel lists it as a tray part, so you will mostly find it in prebuilt and business desktops.
What the Core i5-14600 is
The Core i5-14600 is the top locked Core i5 of Intel's 14th Gen desktop lineup for the LGA1700 socket. It has 6 performance cores with Hyper-Threading and 8 efficient cores, 20 threads in total, with performance cores boosting to 5.2 GHz and efficient cores to 3.9 GHz. It carries 24 MB of L3 cache and 20 MB of L2 cache, the same cache layout as the Core i5-14600K, but runs at a 65 W base power with a 154 W maximum turbo power. It supports DDR5 up to 5600 MT/s, DDR4 up to 3200 MT/s and ECC memory. The multiplier is locked, and Intel lists only a tray version, so it mainly ships inside prebuilt PCs.
Performance in everyday use
Everyday work, office apps and heavy multitasking run smoothly, and the 14 cores help in video exports, rendering and code compiles. In games it pairs well with a midrange or upper midrange graphics card, since its performance cores clock close to the unlocked 14600K. The lower power limits mean it runs cooler and quieter than the K version in a compact or office case, at the cost of some sustained multi-core speed. How close it gets to the K chip depends on the power settings the PC maker chooses.
Graphics
Intel UHD Graphics 770 with 32 execution units at up to 1.55 GHz is built in and can run up to four displays. It is fine for office work, 4K video and Intel Quick Sync video encoding and decoding, which speeds up editing and streaming. For modern games, you still need a graphics card. Having the iGPU means business desktops with this chip can ship without one.
Comparison to Alternatives
The Core i5-14600K has the same core layout and cache but is unlocked, clocks a little higher and runs at a much higher power limit. The Core i5-14500 is a small step down in clocks, L2 cache and memory speed. AMD's Ryzen 5 9600 and Ryzen 5 7600X have 6 cores and 12 threads on AM5 with a longer upgrade path. Intel's Core Ultra 5 245 is the successor on the new LGA1851 socket. The comparison pages below show each spec side by side.
Should you buy it?
Yes, if you find it in a prebuilt or business desktop at a fair price, since it offers most of the 14600K's speed with lower heat and noise. For a DIY build, the boxed Core i5-14600K or 14600KF is easier to find and gives more headroom, while the 14400F is the value pick for gaming. LGA1700 has no newer CPUs coming, so it is not the platform to buy for future drop-in upgrades.
Our verdict
Reviewed by Burooj Alam. Rated by us, not by users.
Best for
- Prebuilt and business desktops that need strong multi-core speed at 65 W
- Quiet home and office PCs that also handle editing and gaming
- Video work that benefits from Intel Quick Sync
Not for
- DIY builders, since Intel lists it only as a tray part
- Overclocking, because the multiplier is locked
- Buyers who want a socket with future CPU upgrades

FAQs
What is the difference between the Core i5-14600 and the 14600K?
Both have 6 performance cores, 8 efficient cores, 20 threads and 24 MB of L3 cache. The 14600 is locked, boosts to 5.2 GHz and runs at a 65 W base power, while the 14600K is unlocked, clocks a little higher and runs at a much higher power limit. The 14600 runs cooler and quieter, and the K is faster in long multi-core loads.
Can I buy the Core i5-14600 on its own?
Intel lists the Core i5-14600 only as a tray part, so it mainly ships inside prebuilt and business desktops. Loose tray chips do show up from some sellers, but they usually come without a cooler or retail warranty.
Is the Core i5-14600 good for gaming?
Yes, with a graphics card. Its performance cores boost up to 5.2 GHz, close to the 14600K, so it handles modern games well at 1080p and 1440p. The integrated UHD Graphics 770 is not meant for modern games.
Does the Core i5-14600 support DDR4 or DDR5?
Both. It supports DDR5 up to 5600 MT/s and DDR4 up to 3200 MT/s in two channels, up to 192 GB. Intel also lists ECC support on boards with a chipset that enables it.
Can you overclock the Core i5-14600?
No. The multiplier is locked. If you want to overclock on LGA1700, the Core i5-14600K or 14600KF is the chip to get.
