MSI Gaming X Slim GeForce RTX 5070 Review
MSI Gaming X Slim GeForce RTX 5070 is a mainstream NVIDIA graphics card built on the Blackwell (GB205) architecture, with 12GB of GDDR7 memory, a 2557MHz boost clock, and a 250W TDP. It is NVIDIA's mainstream Blackwell card, aimed at 1440p gamers who want DLSS 4 without high-end pricing.
If you're shopping for a mainstream card, the MSI Gaming X Slim GeForce RTX 5070 lines up against AMD's Radeon RX 9070 in this catalog. Expect a card around 280mm long needing a 2.5-slot opening in your case, with cuda cores count of 6144 feeding its rendering pipeline. Launch MSRP was $549, though street pricing has moved since.
Performance and Architecture
Built on NVIDIA's Blackwell (GB205) architecture, the MSI Gaming X Slim GeForce RTX 5070 pairs 6144 cuda cores with 12GB of GDDR7 memory on what NVIDIA rates as a 2557MHz boost clock. That combination places it in the mainstream tier, where it's tuned for a specific resolution and refresh-rate target rather than being a universal do-everything card.
Power, Size, and Compatibility
At a 250W TDP, the MSI Gaming X Slim GeForce RTX 5070 needs a power supply with enough headroom on the 12V rail plus whatever PCIe power connectors this variant uses. Physically it runs about 280mm long and occupies a 2.5-slot opening, so measure your case's GPU clearance and front intake fans before buying, especially in compact builds.
Comparison to Alternatives
The closest rival to the MSI Gaming X Slim GeForce RTX 5070 in this catalog is AMD's Radeon RX 9070, which competes at a similar price and resolution target. Shoppers who need more VRAM headroom or lower power draw than the MSI Gaming X Slim GeForce RTX 5070 offers should cross-shop that card before deciding, since the two trade blows depending on the game engine and whether ray tracing or upscaling is in use.
