NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Review
The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 launched in 2016 as a cut-down GP104 card that delivered GTX 980 Ti-level performance at roughly two-thirds of the power draw and a much lower price, making it one of the most popular high-end cards of the Pascal generation.
It's held up remarkably well as a budget option for older systems, since 8GB of VRAM was generous for its time and still covers most esports titles and older AAA games at 1080p. What it can't do is ray tracing, DLSS, or comfortable 1440p in anything demanding released in the last few years.
The 980 Ti Killer
At launch the GTX 1070 matched or beat the previous flagship GTX 980 Ti in most benchmarks while drawing significantly less power and costing hundreds less, which is why it became such a common upgrade path for anyone still on Maxwell-generation cards.
Comparison to Alternatives
Against the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Ti also in this catalog, the 1070 essentially matches it in rasterized performance while running cooler and cheaper, making the 1070 the better of the two even years later thanks to lower power draw and generally better driver longevity. Against the AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT in this catalog, a newer RDNA 1 card, the 1070's older Pascal architecture still edges ahead in most titles on raw CUDA core count, though the RX 5600 XT draws less power doing it.
