Seeed reTerminal (Single-Board Computer/Raspberry Pi CM4/Quad-Core Cortex-A72/5-inch Touchscreen/Industrial HMI Device) Review

Seeed reTerminal is an industrial HMI device built around a Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4, integrating a 5-inch touchscreen, RS485 and CAN bus interfaces, and onboard sensors into a wall- or DIN-rail-mountable enclosure.

The reTerminal takes the CM4 out of the bare-board world entirely and turns it into a finished industrial panel: touchscreen, RS485/CAN for factory-floor protocols, an accelerometer and light sensor, all in a rugged case that can go straight onto a wall or machine without any custom enclosure design work.

Industrial I/O Out of the Box

Unlike a bare CM4 carrier board, the reTerminal ships with RS485 and CAN bus connectors already wired up, which matters directly for factory automation, building management, and vehicle telemetry projects that would otherwise need a custom HAT.

A Finished Product, Not a Kit

The touchscreen, buttons, LEDs, and sensors are all pre-integrated and enclosed, so the reTerminal functions as a deployable HMI panel from the moment it powers on, trading the flexibility of a bare board for dramatically faster time-to-deployment.

Comparison to Alternatives

Against the ClockworkPi uConsole, both are CM4-adjacent devices with screens, but the reTerminal targets fixed industrial installs with RS485/CAN while the uConsole targets portable general computing. Compared to building a custom HMI around a bare Raspberry Pi Compute Module 5, the reTerminal is more expensive per unit but eliminates enclosure and interface design work entirely.
