GIGABYTE AORUS RTX 3080 Gaming Box Rev 2.0 vs Sonnet eGFX Breakaway Box 850 T5: which one fits your build
The GIGABYTE AORUS RTX 3080 Gaming Box Rev 2.0 suits buyers who want zero-assembly, single-cable eGPU with no PC-building involved. The same goes for Thunderbolt 3 MacBook Pro or Windows ultrabook owners wanting reliable RTX 3080 performance. Avoid it for anyone who wants to upgrade the GPU later, since it's sealed and non-modular. Take the Sonnet eGFX Breakaway Box 850 T5 for buyers with the largest current triple-wide flagship GPUs needing genuine physical and electrical compatibility. It also earns its place with anyone wanting the measured 92% desktop-performance figure specifically achievable only over Thunderbolt 5. It is the wrong buy for buyers on Thunderbolt 3 or 4 laptops without Thunderbolt 5 support, won't reach the full measured performance advantage without a Thunderbolt 5-equipped host device. Our rating of the GIGABYTE AORUS RTX 3080 Gaming Box Rev 2.0 (7/10): excellent plug-and-play convenience, but the sealed design and price premium hurt long-term value versus a bare enclosure. Our rating of the Sonnet eGFX Breakaway Box 850 T5 (9/10): the Thunderbolt 5 performance leader, 92% of desktop GPU performance, triple-wide support up to 345mm, and single-cable 100W charging.
