HP OMEN Accelerator vs PowerColor Devil Box: Comparison
HP OMEN Accelerator vs PowerColor Devil Box cooling type compared
Cooling type is the dividing line, HP OMEN Accelerator Active Fan against PowerColor Devil Box Active fan, vented steel chassis. Psu wattage is closer, 460 W on the HP OMEN Accelerator versus 500 W on the PowerColor Devil Box. Connection standard is not the same on both, Proprietary on the HP OMEN Accelerator versus Thunderbolt 3 on the PowerColor Devil Box. They differ on extra ports too, 3 on the HP OMEN Accelerator versus None beyond the PCIe slot; bare-bones enclosure on the PowerColor Devil Box.
Who each one is for
The HP OMEN Accelerator suits buyers who find one bundled cheap with a compatible laptop and collectors of early proprietary eGPU solutions, though it is the wrong buy for any laptop without HP's specific proprietary Accelerator port and current HP OMEN laptops, which use standard Thunderbolt/USB-C instead. It also earns its place with owners of a compatible 2016-2017 HP OMEN laptop with the Accelerator port. Buy the PowerColor Devil Box for AMD Radeon card owners with XConnect-supported laptops and buyers wanting a simple, no-extra-ports enclosure, though it is not built for anyone wanting USB/Ethernet hub functionality and NVIDIA card owners (XConnect is AMD-specific). Our rating of the HP OMEN Accelerator (5/10): A niche, single-generation product locked to specific older OMEN laptops, not a general recommendation. Our rating of the PowerColor Devil Box (5/10): A historically significant early Thunderbolt 3 eGPU box, but bare-bones even by the standards of its own era and long discontinued.
