If you have an older HP OMEN laptop with the Accelerator port and you're deciding whether the HP OMEN Accelerator eGPU box is worth tracking down,
it works well for its era and its era only, HP's proprietary connector locks it to a short list of OMEN laptops from around 2017, and HP never carried the idea forward to Thunderbolt, so anyone without a compatible OMEN model should skip it entirely.
What It Actually Is
HP's answer to the Alienware Graphics Amplifier, the OMEN Accelerator uses its own proprietary PCIe connector rather than Thunderbolt, built into a specific run of OMEN laptops around 2016-2017. It carries a 460W supply, three USB 3.0 ports, and Gigabit Ethernet, aimed at letting a thin OMEN laptop run a full desktop GPU.
Comparison to Alternatives
Like the Alienware Graphics Amplifier, it only works with laptops that physically have HP's matching proprietary port, there's no universal compatibility the way a Thunderbolt enclosure like the AKiTiO Node Titan or Sonnet eGFX Breakaway Box 650 offers.
