HP OMEN Accelerator vs Sonnet eGFX Breakaway Box 350: Comparison
HP OMEN Accelerator vs Sonnet eGFX Breakaway Box 350: the cooling type difference
Cooling type is the dividing line, HP OMEN Accelerator Active Fan against Sonnet eGFX Breakaway Box 350 Active, ultra-low-noise Noctua fan. HP OMEN Accelerator also leads on max gpu length, 290 mm on the HP OMEN Accelerator versus 220 mm on the Sonnet eGFX Breakaway Box 350. Add psu wattage to that, 460 W on the HP OMEN Accelerator versus 350 W on the Sonnet eGFX Breakaway Box 350, and the pattern holds.
Which should you buy, HP OMEN Accelerator or Sonnet eGFX Breakaway Box 350?
Buy the HP OMEN Accelerator for buyers who find one bundled cheap with a compatible laptop and collectors of early proprietary eGPU solutions, though it is not built for any laptop without HP's specific proprietary Accelerator port and current HP OMEN laptops, which use standard Thunderbolt/USB-C instead. It is equally the pick for owners of a compatible 2016-2017 HP OMEN laptop with the Accelerator port. The Sonnet eGFX Breakaway Box 350 is the one to take for buyers who specifically want a quieter Noctua-fan enclosure and compact desk setups where a full double-wide box is overkill, though it is not the pick for buyers wanting real laptop charging power (only 15W here) and anyone chasing high frame rates on a modern RTX card. It also earns its place with video editors running single-slot acceleration cards for Avid HDX or similar workflows. It is not the one for any double-wide gaming GPU, since the chassis physically won't fit one.

HP OMEN Accelerator
5 / 10 Expert Rating
A niche, single-generation product locked to specific older OMEN laptops, not a general recommendation.
Sonnet eGFX Breakaway Box 350
6 / 10 Expert Rating
A niche but well-executed pick for single-slot cards and quiet operation, not for gaming-class GPUs.
