AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D vs Intel Core i7-14700K: Comparison
AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D vs Intel Core i7-14700K: the l3 cache difference
The gap that matters here is l3 cache: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D 96 MB against Intel Core i7-14700K 33 MB, which puts AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D 66% ahead. The benchmark result agrees. Blender Cycles (CPU) puts Intel Core i7-14700K 53% ahead, 444 against 210 over 121 runs. Intel Core i7-14700K also leads on l2 cache, 4 MB on the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D versus 28 MB on the Intel Core i7-14700K.
AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D vs Intel Core i7-14700K: which one fits your build
Buy the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D for mainstream desktop builds and everyday productivity, though it is not built for extreme overclocking (unless K/X-series) and workstation-class multi-threaded workloads. Take the Intel Core i7-14700K for gaming and content-creation desktop builds wanting near-flagship multi-threaded throughput at a lower price than the i9. It is the wrong buy for buyers wanting Intel's most power-efficient current architecture, the newer Arrow Lake Core Ultra lineup offers better efficiency on a fresh platform. Our rating of the Intel Core i7-14700K (8.7/10): the Intel Core i7-14700K delivers most of the i9's performance for less, making it one of the best-value high-end LGA 1700 chips.
Where the two are identical
Where they agree, they agree completely, performance cores, p-core base clock, socket status, market segment and smt enabled included, so the decision does not turn on any of those. They match on 5 further specifications as well.
Which is cheaper, AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D or Intel Core i7-14700K?
At the last price check the Intel Core i7-14700K was $409 and the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D $449, a 10% premium.
