Intel 8th Gen Intel Core i7 8809G vs Intel 9th Gen Intel Core i7-9850H: Comparison
8th Gen Intel Core i7 8809G vs 9th Gen Intel Core i7-9850H: the l3 cache difference
On l3 cache the spread is 33%, 8th Gen Intel Core i7 8809G 8 MB against 9th Gen Intel Core i7-9850H 12 MB, so 9th Gen Intel Core i7-9850H takes it. There is a split on tdp as well, 100 W on the 8th Gen Intel Core i7 8809G versus 45 W on the 9th Gen Intel Core i7-9850H. Add l2 cache to that, 1 MB on the 8th Gen Intel Core i7 8809G versus 1.5 MB on the 9th Gen Intel Core i7-9850H, and the pattern holds. They differ on socket too, BGA2270 on the 8th Gen Intel Core i7 8809G versus FCBGA1440 on the 9th Gen Intel Core i7-9850H.
Who each one is for
Take the 8th Gen Intel Core i7 8809G for compact high-performance laptops wanting genuine discrete-class graphics without a separate GPU module. Avoid it for buyers seeking a conventional, widely-supported platform, this Intel-AMD hybrid chip was a short-lived, unusual design. Take the 9th Gen Intel Core i7-9850H for gaming and creator laptops of its generation wanting solid 6-core Coffee Lake Refresh performance. It is not the one for buyers with access to the later 10th Gen i7-10750H, that chip offers a modest generational improvement on a similar core configuration.
Where the two are identical
The common ground is wider than the gap: efficiency cores, integrated graphics, product line, form factor and market segment are identical here. They match on 1 further specification as well.
