Intel 9th Gen Intel Core i7 9750H vs Intel 11th Gen Intel Core i9-11980HK: Comparison
9th Gen Intel Core i7 9750H vs 11th Gen Intel Core i9-11980HK l3 cache compared
Start with l3 cache, because it is the widest measured gap between them: 9th Gen Intel Core i7 9750H 12 MB against 11th Gen Intel Core i9-11980HK 24 MB, 50% in favour of 11th Gen Intel Core i9-11980HK. Add l2 cache to that, 1.5 MB on the 9th Gen Intel Core i7 9750H versus 10 MB on the 11th Gen Intel Core i9-11980HK, and the pattern holds. There is a split on release year as well, 2019 on the 9th Gen Intel Core i7 9750H versus 2021 on the 11th Gen Intel Core i9-11980HK.
Who each one is for
Take the 9th Gen Intel Core i7 9750H for mainstream gaming laptops of the Coffee Lake generation wanting dependable, well-understood 6-core performance. Avoid it for buyers wanting the newer Tiger Lake or Comet Lake architecture, later generations offer meaningful IPC and efficiency gains over Coffee Lake. Take the 11th Gen Intel Core i9-11980HK for flagship gaming laptops wanting the strongest available Tiger Lake H performance with overclocking headroom. It is the wrong buy for budget-conscious buyers, the non-K 11800H, covered elsewhere on this site, delivers similar core performance for less without the overclocking headroom.
What 9th Gen Intel Core i7 9750H and 11th Gen Intel Core i9-11980HK have in common
Where they agree, they agree completely, efficiency cores, p-core base clock, tdp, integrated graphics and form factor included, so the decision does not turn on any of those. They match on 2 further specifications as well.
