ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 15 G532LWS Review

ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 15 G532LWS is a 15.6-inch gaming laptop with a Core i7-10875H, GeForce RTX 2070 Super (115 W), 16GB DDR4, 1TB NVMe SSD and a 1920x1080 240Hz IPS display.

A 2020 gaming laptop built for high frame rates at 1080p. The 240 Hz IPS display covers 100% sRGB, and the RTX 2070 Super can draw up to 115 W. Memory is upgradeable: 16 GB DDR4 in two SO-DIMM slots, both used, with a 32 GB maximum. There are 2 M.2 slots with 1 free. The adapter is 240 W and the battery is 66Wh. It weighs 2.35 kg. It has no Thunderbolt and WiFi 6 only.

Overview

The SCAR 15's per-key RGB keyboard and WASD-highlighted keycaps signal its esports focus, paired with a 10th-gen Intel H-series CPU and RTX Super-series GPU that were high-end for their 2020 release.

Screen replacement note

The 240Hz FHD panel in this generation of SCAR/TUF chassis is commonly a Sharp LQ156M1JW-series part (e.g. LQ156M1JW03/09/26), a 40-pin eDP panel widely stocked as a replacement.

Expert rating7.5 / 10

The ROG Strix Scar 15 pairs a Core i7-10875H with a GeForce GTX or RTX 20 series GPU, 16GB of DDR4 and a 15.6 inch 1080p IPS screen at 240Hz. A 1TB drive with a free second SSD slot make it a fast option for competitive esports play.

The 2020 platform is dated, and there is no Thunderbolt. At 2.35 kg with a 66Wh battery, it is heavy and best used plugged in. The 1080p resolution also trades sharpness for frame rate.

Best for

Competitive/esports gaming prioritizing frame rate

Not for

Buyers wanting higher resolution over refresh rate
