ASUS TUF Gaming A15 FA506 Review

ASUS TUF Gaming A15 FA506 with AMD Ryzen 7 5800H, GeForce RTX 3060, 16GB DDR4, 512GB NVMe SSD, 15.6-inch FHD IPS display available up to 240Hz.

A budget-focused durability-tested (MIL-STD-810H) gaming chassis, the 2021 FA506 generation paired Ryzen 5000-series mobile CPUs with Ampere GPUs at a lower price than ASUS's premium ROG line. Distinct chassis generation from the newer FA507 (Ryzen 7000-series) already in this catalog.

Overview

The FA506 undercuts ROG-branded ASUS gaming laptops on price while sharing much of the same internal hardware, at the cost of a plainer chassis design and fewer premium materials.

Screen replacement note

The 240Hz FHD configuration of this chassis is commonly fitted with a Sharp LQ156M1JW26 panel (40-pin eDP), part of the same LQ156M1JW family used across several ASUS gaming laptops of this era.

Our verdict

Expert rating7.5 / 10

The TUF Gaming A15 uses a Ryzen 7 5800H with an RTX 30 series GPU and 6GB of VRAM. Its 15.6-inch 1080p IPS panel runs at 240Hz, and the 16GB of DDR4 sits in SO-DIMM slots, so memory can grow later. A 90Wh battery and a free storage slot add headroom.

It weighs 2.3 kg, has no Thunderbolt port and uses WiFi 6. If you want fast external docks or a premium chassis, look elsewhere. The 512GB drive is modest for big game libraries.

Best for

Budget-conscious gamers wanting high refresh rate

Not for

Buyers wanting a premium chassis or Thunderbolt support
