Kensington SD1620P Review

The Kensington SD1620P is a pocket-sized portable dock offering dual 4K@60Hz display support and 100W pass-through charging in a form factor small enough to carry alongside a laptop rather than leave permanently on a desk.

Kensington built the SD1620P for hybrid workers who dock at different desks throughout the week rather than one fixed workstation. Despite its small size it still drives two external 4K monitors at full 60Hz, something most pocket docks compromise on, and passes through 100W so a single cable both charges the laptop and connects everything else. It skips Ethernet to stay small, on the assumption most portable users are on Wi-Fi anyway.

Comparison to Alternatives

Against the ASUS DC5 Universal Dock, both are travel-sized, but the SD1620P drives two external 4K displays where the DC5 stops at one, justifying its higher price for hybrid workers who need dual monitors at multiple desks. Against the Twelve South StayGo mini, the StayGo's magnetic Mac-only design is more MacBook-specific, while the SD1620P's plain USB-C connector and Chrome OS support make it the more broadly compatible portable option.
