Lenovo LOQ 15IRH8 Review

The Lenovo LOQ 15IRH8 pairs a Core i5-13420H with a 95W GeForce RTX 4050 behind a 15.6in 1920x1080 IPS panel at 144Hz, in a 2.4kg chassis fed by a 170W adapter.

The configuration that matters here is the memory and storage layout. Lenovo fits two DDR5 SO-DIMM slots with nothing soldered, and two M.2 slots, one 2242 and one 2280, both PCIe 4.0 x4. Nothing in this machine is sealed.

This is the opposite of a modern thin and light, and that is the point. It is thick, it weighs 2.4kg, and every part of it that matters can be replaced.

An 8GB gaming laptop is a compromise on the day you buy it. On this one it is a compromise you can undo for the price of a memory module, which is not true of most machines at this price.

Memory: two slots, nothing soldered

Lenovo specifies two DDR5 SO-DIMM slots, dual channel capable, with a 32GB maximum and no memory on the board. The 8GB configuration ships as a single module, leaving one slot free.

That makes the obvious upgrade path adding a second 8GB module for dual channel, which on a machine with a discrete GPU is worth more than the capacity alone. Going to 32GB means replacing both, since the ceiling is 32GB total.

Storage: two slots, two different lengths

There are two M.2 slots, both PCIe 4.0 x4. One takes an M.2 2242 drive and the other an M.2 2280. Which one the factory drive occupies varies by configuration, so check before ordering.

The practical consequence is that a 2280 drive will not fit the 2242 slot. Confirm which slot is free on your specific unit rather than assuming the longer one.

What we have not verified

Lenovo does not publish a sustained CPU or combined power figure for this chassis, so both fields are empty and the source is recorded as not measured. Those figures are what separate two laptops with identical silicon, and they only come from testing.

Expert rating7.6 / 10

A plain gaming laptop that gets the boring decisions right. Two memory slots, two M.2 slots, nothing soldered, and a 144Hz panel that the RTX 4050 can actually drive at 1080p.

Buy the 8GB version only if you intend to add the second module immediately. Out of the box it is running single channel, which costs real frame rates on a machine with a discrete GPU.

Best for

Buyers who want to upgrade memory and storage later
1080p gaming at 144Hz without paying thin-and-light prices
Anyone who values two M.2 slots over a thin chassis

Not for

Anyone who wants a light or quiet laptop, this is 2.4kg
Buyers who need Thunderbolt, this has USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 only
Leaving it at 8GB single channel
