Lenovo ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Graphics Dock Review

Lenovo ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Graphics Dock, pre-installed AMD Radeon RX 580, eGPU plus full docking station for ThinkPad X1 laptops

Aimed at ThinkPad X1 Carbon and X1 Yoga owners, this Lenovo dock combined a fixed Radeon RX 580 with full docking-station functionality, Ethernet, extra displays, USB ports, and 135W charging, in one box, though it earned a rocky reputation for driver and compatibility issues at launch.

Overview

Lenovo built this as a combined docking station and eGPU specifically validated for its ThinkPad X1 line, bundling a fixed RX 580 with the full I/O complement of a premium Thunderbolt dock.

Comparison to Alternatives

It plays a similar dual-purpose role to the HP OMEN Accelerator and Lenovo's own later Legion BoostStation (already in this catalog), but targets business ThinkPads rather than gaming laptops, and unlike the BoostStation its GPU isn't user-replaceable. eGPU.io's contemporary review, titled 'Dead on Arrival,' documented significant early firmware and compatibility problems that dogged the product.
