Blackmagic Design Web Presenter Review
If you're comparing hardware SDI-to-USB converters for a professional livestream setup, the Blackmagic Web Presenter takes SDI or HDMI sources and outputs them as a standard UVC webcam over USB, no capture software required.
It's built for broadcast-style setups where a camera operator switches between two SDI inputs and the output just shows up as a webcam in Zoom, OBS, or Teams. It's not a general HDMI gaming capture card, it's a dedicated hardware converter and switcher aimed at professional presenters and studios.
Comparison to Alternatives
Compared to the Magewell USB Capture HDMI Gen 2, which is a single-input, driver-free HDMI-to-USB dongle, the Web Presenter adds a second SDI input and hardware A/B switching with a tally light, making it a mini production switcher rather than a plain capture dongle. Against the Blackmagic UltraStudio Recorder 3G, which targets DaVinci Resolve capture and editing workflows, the Web Presenter is built purely to output a clean UVC webcam feed for conferencing and livestreaming software, not for professional recording into an NLE.

Expert rating8 / 10
Excellent for professional two-camera presenting setups that need to output as a plain webcam. Overkill and the wrong tool for gaming capture.
Best for
- Professional presenters switching between two SDI or HDMI camera feeds
- Studios that need a clean UVC webcam output for Zoom or Teams from broadcast gear
- Corporate or house-of-worship AV setups needing hardware switching with tally
Not for
- Console or PC gaming capture, since there's no HDR or 4K support
- Simple single-camera streamers who don't need hardware switching
- Anyone recording directly into an NLE rather than outputting a webcam feed
