Emerald EMD4000T Review

The Emerald EMD4000T is a Black Box Emerald 4K DisplayPort KVM-over-IP transmitter, encoding 4K video and USB for network transport.

This is the source-side half of Emerald's 4K DisplayPort pair, plan on buying it with the EMD4000R receiver, since the two together are what actually gets a 4K workstation extended across a network.

Source-Side 4K Encoding

The EMD4000T sits at the workstation, encoding 4K DisplayPort video, USB peripherals and audio for transport over a standard IP network to its EMD4000R receiver counterpart, letting facilities keep the actual PC in a secured or remote equipment room.

Priced for Serious 4K Deployments

This transmitter alone costs more than most complete Cat5 KVM extender kits in this catalog, a reasonable trade for buyers who genuinely need 4K DisplayPort fidelity over an IP-routed network, not for casual extension needs.

Comparison to Alternatives

ATEN's KX9970T (also in this catalog) reaches 5K DisplayPort for a lower price than the EMD4000T, worth comparing directly if your GPU and monitor can use the extra resolution. Adder's ALIF1104T stays at HDMI/1080p-class resolution for well under half the EMD4000T's price.
