NTI VOPEX-2KVIM-A Review

The NTI VOPEX-2KVIM-A is a 2-user PS/2 KVM splitter with VGA video that lets two consoles share one PS/2 computer.

It's the PS/2-console member of the VOPEX family, for the shrinking pool of machines still using round PS/2 keyboard and mouse connectors instead of USB, mostly found on older industrial or embedded systems that haven't been replaced.

Keeping PS/2 Hardware Alive

Many industrial control systems and legacy embedded PCs still rely on PS/2 keyboard and mouse ports rather than USB, and the VOPEX-2KVIM-A lets two operator consoles control one such machine without USB-to-PS/2 adapters that can be unreliable.

A Shrinking but Real Niche

As PS/2 hardware ages out of most environments, purpose-built PS/2 switches like this one become harder to find, making the VOPEX-2KVIM-A a specific answer for facilities that still depend on that connector.

Comparison to Alternatives

Versus the NTI VOPEX-USBV-2 - the USB-console sibling in the same family, appropriate once machines have moved to USB keyboard/mouse. Versus the ATEN CS84U - a 4-port switch with combined PS/2/USB console ports, offering more ports if pure PS/2 support isn't required. Versus the Black Box Wizard KV2004A - also supports PS/2 alongside USB, with OSD menu and rack mounting for larger PS/2-dependent racks.
