Best Laptops for Monster Hunter Wilds: The Recommended Spec Assumes Frame Generation

By Burooj Alam · Last checked October 9, 2026

Capcom annotates its recommended spec as 1080p60 on Medium with Frame Generation enabled. On laptops that is a hardware requirement in disguise: 36 of the 180 we track can do it, and 13 can do the multi-frame version.

Capcom publishes two specs for Monster Hunter Wilds, and read carefully, two things stand out.

The minimum and recommended tiers have the same CPU and the same RAM. Both ask for an i5-10400, i3-12100 or Ryzen 5 3600, and both ask for 16GB. The only thing Capcom changes between the two tiers is the graphics card.

Both tiers assume reconstruction. The minimum spec is annotated "expected to run at 1080p (upscaled from 720 native resolution) / 30 fps under the 'Lowest' graphics setting". The recommended spec is annotated "expected to run at 1080p / 60 fps (with Frame Generation enabled) under the 'Medium' graphics setting". So the published recommendation does not describe the game rendering 1080p60. It describes it reaching 1080p60 with frames being generated.

That matters more on a laptop than on a desktop, and here is why.

The Frame Generation Assumption Is a Hardware Requirement in Disguise

NVIDIA's DLSS Frame Generation runs on GeForce RTX 40 Series and RTX 50 Series GPUs, because it depends on the Optical Flow Accelerator introduced with the 40 Series. Multi Frame Generation, which inserts up to three frames, is RTX 50 Series only. Super Resolution and DLAA run on all RTX cards, but those upscale; they do not generate frames.

Across the 180 laptops we track, 36 have an RTX 40 or 50 Series GPU. Thirteen of those are RTX 50 Series, so only 13 can use Multi Frame Generation.

So Capcom's recommended configuration, read literally, is satisfied on 36 of 180 laptops. The recommended GPU itself is an RTX 2060 Super or RX 6600, which plenty of older machines match or beat, but those machines cannot do the thing the annotation assumes they are doing.

This is not a reason to panic. AMD's FSR 3 frame generation is vendor-agnostic and runs on older NVIDIA cards too, so an RTX 3060 laptop is not excluded from frame generation, it is excluded from NVIDIA's implementation of it. But it does mean that "my GPU is above the recommended spec" and "I will get the experience the recommended spec describes" are two different claims on a laptop, and the second one depends on which generation your GPU is, not just how fast it is.

110 of 180 Laptops Are Below the Minimum Before You Start

The same wall that applies to every demanding title applies here. 110 of the 180 laptops in our catalogue have integrated graphics. 54 have a discrete GPU, and 16 do not publish a GPU figure.

Capcom's floor is a GTX 1660 with 6GB or an RX 5500 XT with 8GB. No current integrated mobile GPU is in that class. If a machine has integrated graphics, Wilds is not a question of settings.

Storage Is Harsher Here Than in Most Guides

Wilds wants 75GB and says SSD required, with DirectStorage supported.

The SSD part is easy on a laptop: 140 of our 180 machines ship an NVMe drive, and DirectStorage is designed around exactly that. The capacity part is not. 97 of the 162 laptops with a published storage figure ship 512GB or less, and 75GB out of a 512GB drive that is already carrying Windows is a real bite. Prefer a machine with a free NVMe slot, and note which tiers below have one.

Tier 0: Integrated Graphics

Verdict: below Capcom's minimum. Do not buy for this game.

110 of 180 laptops. Nothing to add that the numbers above have not already said.

Tier 1: Capcom's Minimum, Which Means 720p Upscaled to 1080p at 30fps

Target: GTX 1650, RTX 3050 or RTX 4050 class, 16GB, 1080p panel.

Be clear-eyed about what this tier buys. Capcom's own annotation for the minimum spec is 30fps at the Lowest preset, rendering at 720p and upscaling to 1080p. That is the floor, not a compromise below the floor.

HP Victus 15-faCore i5-13420HRTX 3050, 6GB8GB, socketed15.6in 1080p 144HzFSR only

The catch: the RTX 3050 and 3050 Ti machines are RTX 30 Series, so DLSS frame generation is not available to them. They are also the two with the least VRAM, at 6GB and 4GB against Capcom's 6GB floor.

The pick: the Acer Nitro V 14 AI. It is the only machine in this tier with 16GB, 8GB of VRAM, a 1TB drive and an RTX 50 Series GPU, which means it is the only one that can use Multi Frame Generation. A 6-core CPU is weak, but Capcom's own CPU requirement does not change between tiers, so the CPU is the least of your problems here.

Tier 2: Capcom's Recommended Spec, Read Literally

Target: an RTX 40 or 50 Series GPU with 8GB, 16GB system RAM, 1080p.

This tier is machines that can actually do what the recommended annotation describes: 1080p60 at Medium with frame generation on.

Lenovo Legion Slim 5 16APH8Ryzen 7 8845HS, 8 coresRTX 4060, 8GB16GB socketed16in 1440p 165Hz1TB

The pick: the Acer Nitro V 15 ANV15-52. RTX 50 Series for Multi Frame Generation, 8GB of VRAM, 16GB socketed, a 1TB drive against a 75GB install, and a 165Hz 1080p panel. Nothing else in this tier has all five.

The catch on the 512GB machines: four of these seven ship 512GB. With a 75GB game that is workable and not comfortable. All four have a free NVMe slot.

On the 1440p machines: the Nitro 16 and Legion Slim 5 pair an RTX 4060 with a 1440p panel. For Wilds specifically that means leaning harder on DLSS Super Resolution, which is fine, but a 1080p panel is the better match for this GPU class.

Tier 3: 1080p High, or 1440p60 With Frame Generation

Target: RTX 4070, RTX 5060 or RTX 5070 class, 16GB to 32GB.

The pick: the Legion Pro 5 16IRX9, for the same reason it wins at this tier in most of our guides. 32GB socketed with a 64GB ceiling, 24 cores, a 1440p 240Hz panel and a free NVMe slot.

The value pick: the ROG Strix G16 2025 is the same GPU and the same panel with 16GB, which already meets Capcom's requirement, so you can leave it alone or add a stick later.

Note on VRAM: every machine in this tier has 8GB, which is exactly Capcom's recommended VRAM figure. 8GB is becoming the floor rather than the comfortable number in 2026 releases, and it is the reason Tier 4 exists.

Tier 4: 1440p High and Above, and the Only Cards With Real VRAM Headroom

Target: RTX 4080 class and up, 12GB to 24GB of VRAM.

The pick: the Legion Pro 7i Gen 10. An RTX 5080 with 16GB of VRAM, Multi Frame Generation, socketed memory and a 1440p 240Hz panel is the sensible end of this tier. The 4K machines above it are spending money on a resolution that Wilds will reconstruct anyway.

The pick if you want the 4K panel: the SCAR 18, which pairs it with 24GB of VRAM and 64GB of socketed memory. The Titan 18 is the same silicon with four storage slots instead of a published memory ceiling.

On the Razer: 24GB of VRAM and Multi Frame Generation, but 12 cores and the memory soldered at its 64GB ceiling. For a game whose CPU requirement never changes between tiers that is a smaller problem than it would be in a creation workload.

What to Take From This

Wilds is a clear example of a release where the published recommended spec is a statement about software as much as hardware. Capcom is telling you that 1080p60 at Medium is a frame-generated figure. On a desktop you read that and shrug. On a laptop it narrows the field to 36 of 180 machines for NVIDIA frame generation and 13 of 180 for the multi-frame version, and it means a faster older GPU can lose to a slower newer one on the exact metric the publisher chose to quote.

Two practical conclusions:

Buy the GPU generation, not just the GPU tier, if upscaling and frame generation matter to you. An RTX 5050 can do things an RTX 3060 cannot, whatever the raw throughput comparison says.

Treat 8GB of VRAM as the floor. It is what Capcom asks for, and asking for exactly the amount a 2025 release needs is not the same as having headroom for the next one. Our 3D rendering and animation guide found only 13 of 129 laptops with a known VRAM figure at 12GB or more, which is the same shortage from a different angle.

If you are buying a 512GB machine, check it has a free NVMe slot before anything else. A 75GB game makes that decision for you. Laptops with upgradeable RAM covers the memory side of the same question, and best laptops for Rust is the companion piece for a game that asks less of the GPU and more of your patience.

Frequently asked questions

What are the official system requirements for Monster Hunter Wilds?

Capcom lists the same CPU and RAM for both tiers: a Core i5-10400, Core i3-12100 or Ryzen 5 3600, and 16GB. Both ask for DirectX 12, 75GB of space and an SSD, with DirectStorage supported. Only the GPU changes: a GTX 1660 6GB or RX 5500 XT 8GB as minimum, an RTX 2060 Super 8GB or RX 6600 8GB as recommended.

What does Capcom mean by 1080p 60fps with Frame Generation enabled?

It means the recommended spec does not describe the game rendering 1080p60. It describes it reaching 1080p60 at the Medium preset with frames being generated. The minimum tier is annotated more bluntly still: 30fps at the Lowest preset, rendering at 720p and upscaling to 1080p. Both published tiers assume reconstruction rather than native rendering.

Which laptop GPUs support DLSS Frame Generation?

NVIDIA states that Frame Generation runs on GeForce RTX 40 Series and RTX 50 Series, because it uses the Optical Flow Accelerator introduced with the 40 Series. Multi Frame Generation, which inserts up to three frames, is RTX 50 Series only. Super Resolution, DLAA and Ray Reconstruction run on all RTX GPUs, but those upscale rather than generate frames. Of the 180 laptops we track, 36 have an RTX 40 or 50 Series GPU and 13 are RTX 50 Series.

Can an RTX 3060 laptop run Monster Hunter Wilds?

The GPU itself is at or above Capcom's recommended RTX 2060 Super, so yes. What it cannot do is NVIDIA frame generation, because that needs an RTX 40 Series card or newer. AMD's FSR 3 frame generation is vendor-agnostic and does run on older NVIDIA cards, so an RTX 30 Series laptop is excluded from NVIDIA's implementation rather than from frame generation altogether.

Is 8GB of VRAM enough for Monster Hunter Wilds?

It is exactly what Capcom asks for in the recommended spec, which is not the same as having headroom. Every machine in our Tier 3 has 8GB, and only the Tier 4 cards go beyond it. Treat 8GB as the floor for 2025 and 2026 releases rather than a comfortable figure.

How much storage does Monster Hunter Wilds need on a laptop?

75GB, with an SSD required and DirectStorage supported. The SSD is easy, since 140 of our 180 laptops ship NVMe. Capacity is the problem: 97 of the 162 machines with a published storage figure ship 512GB or less, and 75GB out of 512GB alongside Windows is a real bite. Check for a free NVMe slot before buying a 512GB machine.

Does a faster older GPU beat a slower newer one for Wilds?

Not necessarily, and that is the unusual part. Because Capcom quotes its recommended frame rate with frame generation enabled, GPU generation can matter more than raw throughput. An RTX 5050 can use Multi Frame Generation; an RTX 3060 cannot use NVIDIA frame generation at all, whatever the benchmark comparison says.

Can a laptop with integrated graphics run Monster Hunter Wilds?

No. Capcom's floor is a GTX 1660 with 6GB or an RX 5500 XT with 8GB, and no current integrated mobile GPU is in that class. 110 of the 180 laptops in our catalogue have integrated graphics, so for most laptops on the market this is not a question of settings.
